I can’t even remember how I used to write. Not when I was in college—I think I still wrote by hand back then—but in MFA school. I don’t remember the process. I barely remember the word processors. For my second master’s, I just used BBEdit to keep things simple. I can’t deal with too much complication with the sorting or processing of the text. Creating a distraction-free writing zone while you have to do all sorts of nonsense to just get writing is stupid. It’s a bad idea. It confuses the process, it hinders the writing. Even if you know the logistics, you’re shedding energy along the way.
