I had a bit of a crisis earlier this year when I ran The Stop Button through the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level test. Then I had even more of one when I ran my novels through it. But then I ran some other novels through it, read some Internet think-pieces on it, thought about it some, got over it. But I got the idea earlier today (maybe yesterday) to run Flesh-Kincaid on Summing-Up. Conclusion? It’s gotten easier to read. In September, it was just over a seventh grade level. Now it’s just under a sixth. Did writing about Maugham get me a whole grade level?
