Even though I barely need it, I enjoy using Photoshop. It loads slowly, it’s an older version, there are occasional frustrations—usually because I don’t use it enough to memorize how to do something or where some tool is located—but I enjoy using it. I don’t need it, it’s overkill, but it’s still nice to have all its capabilities around. Kind of like BBEdit. I probably could get away with TextWrangler, but I enjoy using BBEdit. Both Photoshop and BBEdit are leftover affections from student discounts—Photoshop in undergrad (though probably Elements after it became available) and BBEdit for my second master’s degree. I figure out ways to utilize both. Good software is enjoyable to use, after all. And playing on the computer often isn’t about playing games.
