The social luncheon

I unexpectedly had lunch with someone else today. Not a complete stranger, but a very slight professional acquaintance. I’d forgotten how nice it is to pretend to be extroverted for a half hour. I used to love it—talking to the person next to you on the airplane, sharing a cab from LaGuardia into the city, whatever. Of course, cellphones have changed things, but it’s also me. I’ve gotten a lot less sociable as I’ve aged. I kind of miss it.
