The comics industry has seen a lot of change in the last ten years. Image Comics saved indie comics, producing more completely competent and better comics a month than Vertigo ever did even in its heyday. Sure, at the same time, mainstream comics have arguably gotten much worse; I can’t even remember the last time I knew what Vertigo was even publishing. One of the witch comics. I made it a few issues into it, further than I should have given it. But, for the most part, every week, there are good enough comics out there. Just like there was once good enough network TV every night or good enough Hollywood movies every week. Comics have finally made it. It just wasn’t thanks to Marvel and DC. The superhero comic never transcended, even as the superhero movie became the new Hollywood tentpole. Frankly, it’s made comics a whole lot less interesting.
