I'm breaking my diet/workout regime and having a martini for this post.
The Stop Button isn't closing. Not exactly. It's just not going to be updated daily and I'm not going to focus on developing its library of film responses. This week, which missed a day already, wasn't intended to be its last in the current state... but there it is.
The Stop Button, with its negative reviews of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight can't close. Those posts alone make it akin to the French Resistance. If it weren't for The Dark Knight, I'd never be able to tell people how Filipino medical students threatened my life for posting that negative review.
The Stop Button's just cooling down. It's shedding readers by the week. The majority of the hits come from IMDb, which is fine, but doesn't warrant daily updates.
The site started at jablog.com, a blog site now long gone, and it was a blog. I talked about the act of watching or seeing a film (or reading something) more than I did the item itself.
It moved to blogger for a while... something I can barely remember, since I almost immediately jumped ship to a self-hosting and Sandvox. After it got too big for Sandvox, I moved to wordpress and the site's been--relatively--flourishing since.
It's just too much way too much work right now. Keeping it up at this pace... trying to motivate myself to watch Blondie sequel after Blondie sequel. Almost nothing, for the regular Stop Button visitor, is going to change.
For the people who came by every day to take a look... well, for them it will change and those are the people I want to thank for being readers and, well, not making death threats because I said something nasty about Moonstruck .
So... see you next Wednesday... but don't hold me to it.

As someone who’s only recently discovered you I must say I’m disappointed, but I understand. I’ve been interested mostly in your commentary on classic films and have found you a fresh voice, certainly not locked into any of the more commonly held perspectives on classic film. In other words, just because everyone says it’s 4 stars, you may not necessarily agree, and I think we need that.
Totally understand where you’re coming from though. Hopefully what you’ll find during your cool down period is rather than needing any motivation you’ll suddenly want to start writing about Blondie sequels again just because you want to. At least that’s my hope!
Whatever happens, best of luck, you’re in my reader so I’ll be sure to catch all future installments!
Thanks, Cliff
